instigating a life, one story at a time…

Making sense of the loose ends of life

Late last night as I was about to go to bed, my lips opened and my heart chimed to the tune of a poem/song sung/written by an unknown author which I learned long ago. “My life is but a weaving” has many versions to it but the one that I’m most familiar with was taught to us by our young teacher who was also a good soloist.

Twenty-six years of my life has flowed into the tomb of time since then but the message of the song/poem remains as fresh as the day I first heard it. We may have lost hope in the middle of our life stories, but we don’t know the endings yet. It will all make sense on the other side.

My life is but a weaving
Between the Lord and me
I do not choose the colors
He worketh steadily.

Oftimes he weaveth sorrow
And I in foolish pride
Forget he sees the upper
And I the underside.

The dark threads are as needful
In the Weaver’s skillful hand
As the threads of gold and silver
In the pattern He has planned.

Not till the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly
Will God unroll the canvas
And explain the reason why.

  4. I like your poem. I like how smooth, metered, and expressive it is.
I like the concept of life being a weaving.

Most interesting to me are the words you wrote that
“my life has flowed into the tomb of time.”

It has a sad and distinctly opposite view of what
we have normally perceive of life and death, at least I think…
life not being a flowing into death but a a sudden cutting off.

  5. Thank you for sharing this. It’s been a while since I’ve seen it, and I needed the reminder. I’ve bookmarked it. Thank you

  6. Exquisitely beautiful, simple but profound.

  7. Woven across those dark and golden fibers are the strongest silken threads groomed from the chrysalis of transformation.

  8. SO absolutely beautiful. I’ve been immersed in the very painful research for my latest post on pedophilia all week, so this was a wonderful uplifting read. THANK YOU!

Khamneighang is one of my favorite blogs, and this post speaks loudly and clearly to me. Almost like saying we will understand everything better bye and bye. I love it.

  10. Thank you, this is such a lovely post. It just speaks to me and reminds me that at times when I don’t quite understand what God is doing, I know that one day It will all be made plain and clear. God Bless You. Betty

Awesome picture!! Can you see the silver linings behind those menacing clouds?

  15. I’ve been working a lot (that’s good for physical needs) and so I am behind everything else. The gentleness of this post strikes me. Don’t people struggle and writhe with agony in our “not knowing” that we miss the peace of the piece of art God is making with our lives in the great mosaic of time. With gratitude…
